🍂 Surf, Sand and Autumn 🍂

The **autumn transition in Seaside, Oregon for 2026** brings a shift toward cooler, wetter regional weather, making early fall a dynamic time on the North Coast. While September and early October frequently provide a mild, sunny extension of summer—often called "**Second Summer**" by locals—the 2026 autumn forecast is heavily influenced by a **strong El Niño pattern**, pointing toward a quick transition into cooler and wetter conditions than typical years as October progresses.

Even if you don't love seafood, there's a month-long festival of eats on the north Oregon coast that is bound to tickle your fancy. Discover more local

Artisan producers and seasonal flavors throughout October during Crave the Coast, a month-long celebration along the North Coast Food Trail.

**From October 1 - 31**, visitors can explore food and drink experiences from Astoria to Neskowin and sample special Crave Dishes inspired by the region’s seasonal ingredients at participating businesses.

Businesses along the trail are also offering food-focused activities and experiences during Crave the Coast. Examples include all-you-can-eat oyster Thursdays and fish-and-chips Fridays at The Fish Peddler in Bay City; an exclusive small-group ice cream experience and guided cheese tastings at Tillamook Creamery; and fishing charters out of Astoria, Garibaldi and Pacific City.

**Learn, Taste & Trek: Take Your First Step on the Food Trail.**

Out here, there’s a world of wonders good enough to eat. On the North Coast Food Trail, you’ll find an abundance of producers, shops, vendors and restaurants, who share a passion for bringing out the region’s flavors. Follow wild seafood from the fisherman’s net to the chef’s block; learn how to forage the woods for rare mushrooms; tour the farms—and meet the cows—supplying dairy for Oregon-made cheese. Get a taste of fresh coast-to-table fare as you explore foodways and check out the “roots” of your meal.

There's even a chance to go out on one of those famed Dory boats.

#### _**Clamming on our Clatsop County beaches is closed until the end of November.**_

**But the Tide Pools are calling you…**

The world of tide pools is a space that largely goes unnoticed. Ochre sea stars and giant green anemones are some of the most beautiful creatures aspiring tide poolers can find, but they are only just the beginning of the beauty and variety that the pools have to offer. The rocks of the intertidal zone are literally covered with a rainbow of life. These creatures are SO special. You’ll want to spend a lot of time learning about mammals and other impressive vertebrates. We often miss the incredible world of invertebrates and let me tell ya, they have some wild stuff going on..

**Ocean and Wave Safety**

- **Never turn your back on the ocean:** This is the golden rule of coastal exploration. Always stay alert to shifting waves and incoming water.

- **Watch out for sneaker waves**: Large, unexpected coastal waves can surge far up the beach or rocks without warning, easily knocking you off balance or pulling you into the water

#### Astoria Underground Tour

**🗓️Saturday, October 24th, 4:00pm**

**📍 1125 Marine Drive Lower parking lot half way between 11&12th Street, Astoria**

There is no shortage of things to see and do above ground on the Oregon Coast. But what about below ground? That is where the Astoria Underground Tour comes in, sharing the history and mystery of part of the abandoned tunnel system beneath the streets of Astoria.

Safely escorted through a rehabilitated section of the tunnels by guides Chad Gallup and Jeff Daly, the tour provides guests with a glimpse into the history of Astoria and the people who occupied this subterranean maze.

The tour features artifacts and fully restored rooms where people used to live. Add in a little smoke and colorful lights and you have an experience unlike any other in the region. The tours will thrill young and old with plenty of cultural import for the history buffs and a few surprises for young visitors. There are a few spots where you might have to duck your head enroute to discovery, but the tour is largely accessible to almost all explorers.

The tour, which takes about 45 minutes, is complete with historical accounts of the origin and purpose of the tunnels and the role the system played in shaping Astoria. And while most of the tunnels are closed off to the public, proprietor Daly has painstakingly recreated a small section of the original tunnels enhanced with visual effects to provide a unique perspective into a place not often seen and, until recently, largely forgotten.

**📍****[The Cannon Beach History Center & Museum](https://cbhistory.org/)**

The Cannon Beach History Center & Museum is pleased to welcome The Pursuit of Happiness, a traveling photographic exhibition from the Oregon Historical Society.

Oregon’s beauty and spirit are as diverse as its landscape and its people. To celebrate this bounty, the America 250 Oregon Commission partnered with photographer Peter Marbach to create photographic exhibitions showcasing the essence of Oregon and its vibrant communities.

**The Pursuit of Happiness** captures the heart of festivals, events, and celebrations that bring communities together across the state. From iconic gatherings to intimate local traditions, Marbach’s photographs share the joy, creativity, and connection that make Oregon’s cultural life so unique. Visitors are invited to explore the exhibition and discover moments of celebration and community from throughout Oregon.
