About this property
This is a private 850 sq ft cottage on a quiet, fully-fenced lot in McMinnville — not a house, not a hotel room, but a small standalone space designed for one or two people who want a month of privacy in Oregon wine country. It's the right fit for: writers on a draft, creatives on a project, semi-retired travelers, couples doing a wine country month without needing space for visitors, pre-relocation singles testing McMinnville before buying, and anyone who finds a 4-bedroom rental wildly oversized for two people.
The layout.
- Open-concept living room, dining area, and kitchen — all flowing together
- One bedroom with a queen bed
- A second small room with a daybed and a desk (good as a workspace or for occasional visitor)
- One full bathroom with tub/shower combo
- Foyer entry, fenced yard, large deck
Workspace.
- The daybed room doubles as a quiet office — desk under a window looking out into trees. For solo travelers it's the work room; for couples, it's where one of you can take a call without interrupting the other. Wifi is high speed, strong enough for video calls and remote work.
Kitchen — read carefully.
This is the most important detail to know before booking. The kitchen has a built-in oven, microwave, toaster, full-size refrigerator, and a two-burner hot plate instead of a traditional range. You can absolutely cook for a month here — bake, roast, simmer, sauté — but you cannot run four pots at once. Most solo travelers and couples find this completely workable; if you cook elaborate multi-pot meals nightly, this might frustrate you. All necessary cookware, knives, and dishes are provided.Heating and cooling.
Mini-split heat pump units in both the living room and bedroom — modern, quiet, efficient. Heats well in winter, cools well in summer. The Willamette Valley sees both extremes and these handle them.
Laundry: in-unit washer/dryer.
The deck and yard.
Spacious deck off the living area, looking into mature trees. Outdoor seating for morning coffee or evening reading. The yard is fully fenced with a gated driveway — your space is genuinely private, not visually shared with neighbors.
The area
Upcycled Oasis sits in a quiet residential neighborhood about 1.5 miles south of downtown McMinnville. The streets nearby are tree-lined with mature redwoods and small linear parks — genuinely walkable for daily exercise even if you'll drive for most errands.
Downtown McMinnville (Historic Third Street): 4-minute drive, or about a 30-minute walk on mostly flat streets. This is McMinnville's destination food and wine row — 20+ tasting rooms, several genuinely great restaurants, indie bookstore, vintage shops, and the McMenamins Hotel Oregon. For a solo writer or couple on a month, walking to Third Street for a morning coffee or evening meal becomes a regular ritual.
The wine itself: McMinnville is at the geographic heart of the Willamette Valley AVA. Yamhill-Carlton, Dundee Hills, and Eola-Amity Hills AVAs all spread out from here — 200+ wineries within a 30-minute drive.
Close-by daily essentials:
- Geraldi's Authentic Deli (0.5 miles, ~12-min walk) — famous sandwiches, good for solo work-from-deli days
- Summon Coffee (3 min drive) — craft coffee and pastries
- Mario's Taqueria (3 min drive) — quick taco fix
- Pura Vida Cocina, La Rambla (downtown) — for date nights or solo treat dinners
- Full-size grocery (Safeway, WinCo, Roth's, Harvest Fresh) within 5-10 minutes
- Willamette Valley Medical Center: 10 minutes
- Linfield University campus for walking, lectures, and events
Notable nearby:
- Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum (home of the Spruce Goose): 10 minutes
- Carlton (boutique tasting row): 20 minutes
- Newberg (Allison Inn, more wineries): 20 minutes
Day trips during your month:
- Oregon Coast: 60–75 minutes
- Portland: 60 minutes northeast
- Salem: 45 minutes south
- Silver Falls State Park: 75 minutes
You can do this stay without a car if you're willing to walk for some things (Third Street is 1.5 miles on mostly flat ground, and ride-shares work in McMinnville). But for a full month — grocery runs, day trips, exploring the wineries that aren't on Third Street — a car makes life much easier (Instacart is always an option). There are also plenty of wine car services for getting around.
Parking: Secure on-site, gated driveway. Bring one vehicle and you're set; if you bring multiple, street parking applies and is generally available on this quiet street.
Walking and biking: The neighborhood is flat with sidewalks and mature trees. Pleasant for daily walks, runs, or bike rides.
Wine country logistics: For serious tasting days, the area has reliable wine tour services (Black Tie, Grape Escape, EcoTours of Oregon) so you can taste without driving. Solo travelers — these tours are also a good way to meet people if you're doing a longer solo stay.
Air travel: Portland International (PDX) is about 75 minutes by car. Easy monthly arrival/departure.
