Willamette Valley Wine Country

Willamette Valley Wine Country

Oregon wine country unfolds across a patchwork of rolling hills and small towns — McMinnville, Carlton, Dundee, and the vineyards in between — where the Willamette Valley has earned its place among the world's great growing regions for Pinot Noir. But the magic of this place was never only in the glass. It's in the pace of it: the light spilling gold over the vines at sunset, the walkable main streets lined with boutiques and roasters, the farm stands and flower fields, and the feeling that you've stumbled onto somewhere still unhurried and real. For the wine lovers, the tasting rooms here trade pretense for warmth — hundreds of them across the Dundee Hills, Yamhill-Carlton, and Eola-Amity Hills, from storied estates to tiny family cellars down gravel lanes, where the person pouring often made the wine. But you don't need a glass in hand to fall for this region, and that's exactly why we build our area guides the way we do. Bring the whole family and spend a day beneath the Spruce Goose at the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum, complete with a waterpark tucked under a real 747. Time your visit for the Oregon International Air Show in McMinnville each August, when fighter jets and hot-air balloons trade the skies. Wander historic Third Street on a warm summer evening during MacFresco, when downtown closes to cars and the whole street becomes an open-air dining room. Chase down antiques and one-of-a-kind finds with our vintage guide, sip your way through craft cider, coffee, and non-alcoholic tasting stops, and let the kids run at a family-friendly winery with lawns, food trucks, and room to roam. However you like to travel — a wine-soaked getaway for two, a multigenerational reunion, or a quiet weekend to simply exhale — our guides are built to help you soak in every side of this valley. Come thirsty, come curious, come with the whole crew. Oregon wine country has a way of making every kind of stay unforgettable.

Our stay was enjoyable. The home had every amenity we needed. It was comfortable especially the bed in the primary room. The lay out is great for a family w/ the primary bed downstairs and the other bedrooms, bathrooms and a small living room/hang out space upstairs for kids. Plenty of games and puzzles for time spent indoors and a lovely quiet neighborhood. Host is responsive and helpful.

Ambrosia was ultimately one of the best homes we have every stayed in! It was totally immaculate, plenty of space and amenities, and lots of little "extras" that made it very special. I want to live there permanently! McMinnville is a wonderful hidden treasure!

This place is by far the best Air Bnb we’ve ever had. It’s a beautiful location with the best view. The fruit trees on the property really made it for me, and then seeing all the wildlife! Truly a great place, will definitely stay here again

We came with our grandchildren to celebrate family and birthdays. The property had everything you need to make meals. The beds were comfy and the floor space offered an upstairs hangout as well as a downstairs living room. The staff were great about promptly answering any questions we may have. It's a warm and inviting place to stay.

Frequently asked questions

Oregon wine country is the Willamette Valley, stretching more than 100 miles south of Portland and home to 700+ wineries across 10 sub-appellations (AVAs). Most visitors base themselves in one of the walkable wine-country towns — McMinnville, Newberg, Dundee, Carlton, or Amity — each within easy reach of dozens of tasting rooms. Cascadia Getaways offers 20+ vacation rentals throughout these towns, so you can settle into a real neighborhood instead of a hotel corridor.

The Willamette Valley is world-renowned for Pinot Noir, thanks to its cool climate, marine breezes, and volcanic soils. You'll also find acclaimed Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling, and sparkling wines. The tasting rooms here tend to be intimate and family-run — expect friendly dogs, winemakers pouring their own bottles, and none of the pretense of bigger wine regions.

Every season has its draw. Spring and summer bring long, sunny days and outdoor events; September and October is harvest ("crush"), the liveliest and most popular time to visit; and winter offers quiet tasting rooms and lower rates. Because harvest and summer weekends book up fast — especially around the Oregon International Air Show in August or a MacFresco dining weekend — we recommend reserving your rental well in advance.

It depends on your trip. McMinnville has the region's liveliest historic downtown (Third Street), top restaurants, and the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum. Newberg and Dundee put you closest to the Dundee Hills' marquee wineries. Carlton is a storybook small town where you can walk between tasting rooms, and Amity is quiet and scenic in the Eola-Amity Hills. Tell our local team your priorities and we'll match you to the right home.

The heart of wine country is close. Newberg and Dundee are roughly 40–50 minutes from Portland International Airport (PDX), and McMinnville is about an hour to 75 minutes, depending on traffic. That makes a Willamette Valley getaway easy for a long weekend or a fly-in trip. Eugene Airport (EUG) is a handy option if you're focused on the valley's southern end.

You have options. A rental car gives you the most freedom, since some tasting rooms sit down gravel roads — but the safest and most relaxing way to tour is a private driver or wine-tour shuttle. Local services like NW Wine Shuttle, Cellar Door Wine Tours, Works4Wine, and Main Street Drivers handle the driving so no one in your group has to. Check out our full transportation guide for a full breakdown. Rideshare works within towns but is unreliable for hops between rural wineries, and e-bikes along the Willamette Valley Scenic Bikeway are a fun car-free alternative. Staying overnight in a local rental means you can taste at a relaxed pace without worrying about the drive home.

Absolutely — it's far more than wine. Families love the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum (home of the Spruce Goose and the Wings & Waves waterpark, with slides through a real 747), the Oregon International Air Show each August, hot-air balloon rides, u-pick berry farms, and family-friendly wineries with lawns, food trucks, and room to roam. Many of our rentals sleep the whole crew, with yards, hot tubs, and game rooms.

Plenty. Wander historic Third Street in McMinnville — especially during MacFresco, when downtown closes to cars and becomes an open-air dining room — hunt for treasures with our vintage and antique guide, and sip your way through craft cider, coffee roasters, and non-alcoholic tasting stops. You can bike the scenic backroads, explore small-town shops and galleries, or simply relax at your rental. Our local area guides map out the best of it, drink-optional.

Yes. Cascadia Getaways offers pet-friendly wine-country homes, rentals with private hot tubs, and properties with EV chargers. Just filter for the amenities you need or ask our local team, and we'll help you find the right fit for your dog, your EV, and your soak-under-the-stars plans.

We can. Our portfolio includes spacious 3- and 4-bedroom homes and dedicated large-group rentals built for reunions, friend getaways, and milestone celebrations — several sleep eight or more, with room to gather, cook, and unwind together. Reach out and we'll help you book the right home (or homes) for your group.

Booking direct saves you roughly 15–20% versus the service fees on Airbnb and Vrbo, and connects you with a local Oregon team that truly knows the valley. You get the same handpicked homes without the middleman markup, plus insider area guides and real people to help plan your trip. It's the same great stay — for less, with better local support.
