The best way to taste Willamette Valley wine is to not drive. These homes sit within walking distance of tasting rooms in Carlton, McMinnville, and the surrounding wine towns — close enough that you can spend an afternoon working through flights and walk home. We also have wine shuttle options in our guidebooks to assist with getting out to the vineyards for the views. Carlton packs its tasting rooms into a few walkable blocks. McMinnville's Third Street runs tasting rooms alongside some of the best restaurants in Oregon. Staying in the middle of it changes the trip: no designated driver, no rushing back before dark, no negotiating over who gets to actually enjoy themselves. How close is walking distance?
Every home in this collection sits within roughly a half mile of several tasting rooms — a ten-minute walk or less. Specific distances are noted on each property page.
Which towns are these homes in?
Mostly Carlton and McMinnville , the two most walkable wine towns in the valley. Browse all of Willamette Valley wine country for homes further out among the vineyards. We have a transportation guide as well if you are looking how to make it around wine country with our other rentals in mind.
Do we still need a car?
For the tasting rooms in town, no. For the estate wineries out in the Dundee Hills and Ribbon Ridge, yes — or hire a driver. Many guests split the difference: a walkable day in town, a driven day out among the vineyards.
When is the best time to visit?
Late summer through harvest in September and October is the classic window, and also the busiest. Spring is quieter and the tasting rooms have more time for you. Winter is the value season — fewer crowds, and rates drop meaningfully.
Do we need tasting room reservations?
Increasingly yes, particularly on weekends and during harvest. Most rooms take bookings online. We're happy to suggest a route through town based on what you like to drink.
Are these homes good for a group?
Several work well for six to eight guests. For a larger party, see our large group and reunion rentals.
Can we bring a dog?
Yes — several of these homes are pet friendly , and the wine towns themselves are unusually dog-tolerant. A number of tasting rooms have patios where dogs are welcome.

We enjoyed the solo firepit in the backyard off the laundry room. Plenty of pillows and blankets available in the home. Kitchen was well equipped.

The home was extremely clean, comfortable, and in the perfect location for exploring McMinnville and surrounding wine country. The hosts were wonderful and even checkin in with us by text more than once during our stay to make sure we had everything we needed, which was such a thoughtful touch. The location made it so easy to enjoy downtown McMinnville while still having a comfortable place to come back to and relax. We had a fantastic experience and would absolutely stay here again. Highly recommend the 5th Street Bungalow to anyone visiting McMinnville!
VrboThis house was fantastic for a group. With 3.25 bathrooms, it worked well for our four couples. Large lower open 1st floor allowed for ease of dining, visiting and the large back yard is a plus. An easy walk to McMinnville afforded the perfect balance of quiet nights yet access to food and shops.Recommend this place for your wine getaway

VrboWe loved this spot! The location was great. It had everything we needed and more. It was very comfortable with plenty of room. We were there for a girls wine tasting trip and it did not disappoint. Our personal code did not work to unlock the door but I just phoned the number in the reservation and within one minute we were in the house! Great customer service! I would rent again for sure!
