Worth getting straight before you book, because guests ask us in these words: "Does your property actually face the ocean? Not just an ocean view?" Waterfront means the home is on the water — you step off the deck onto the riverbank, or off the Prom onto the sand. Water view means the water is visible but there's something between you and it: a road, a dune, a line of trees, or an angle that works from some rooms and not others. This collection holds both deliberately. Our Ocean Front collection is the stricter coastal list.
At several of our Mt. Hood cabins, yes — the Salmon and Sandy are beautiful in summer and guests wade, float and fish them. But treat them as wild water, because they are. There are no lifeguards, no marked swim areas and no river rescue service. Levels, current and submerged hazards change with the season and after rain, and water that was ankle-deep in August can be moving fast in May. Some of our riverbank paths are steep, uneven and unlit.
Many of these homes are wonderful with children and a few need real care. Riverfront cabins put moving water close to the back door and want constant supervision. One of our clifftop coast homes asks that children are watched near the property edge. None of that means don't come.
From several of the Mt. Hood river cabins, yes. The Salmon and Sandy both run steelhead and salmon in season, and a few homes have direct bank access. You'll need a current Oregon fishing licence and to check the season and rules for the stretch you're on — regulations vary by river and time of year.
Often, and for most guests that's the entire point — the surf on the coast, the river at Mt. Hood.
The ocean, yes. The rivers, yes — though they run high and fast in spring and lower and warmer in late summer. One of our wine-country homes back onto a seasonal creek that can be full in winter and quiet by August; the listings say so. If a running creek is what's selling you on a home, check with us for your dates.
Many are, on both the coast and the rivers, and dogs generally love both. We're dog-friendly, not pet-friendly — no cats at any of our properties. A fee applies per dog per stay and most homes cap at two. Most Oregon beaches welcome leashed dogs. On the rivers, judge the current honestly before you let a dog in.
They're opposite seasons, which is why this collection is worth browsing twice. Coast: summer is warmest and busiest; autumn and winter bring storm-watching, empty beaches and the best rates of the year. Rivers: high water and green everything in spring, wading and fishing weather from July, and quiet cold beauty once the snow arrives up the mountain.
50% is due at booking, and the remaining 50% is due 30 days before check-in. Booking inside 30 days? The full amount is due at booking. These terms are strict and they're the same at every home we manage. Booking direct saves you the 15–20% in service fees the third-party platforms add.
Cancellation is strict, and the window varies by home — free cancellation runs from 1 to 14 days before check-in depending on the property. After that the booking is non-refundable. The exact window is on each listing, so check it before you book. For a trip you might need to move, we'd genuinely recommend travel insurance.
10:00 PM to 8:00 AM at every home. A few sit under stricter local rules. Where a stricter local rule applies, it governs. Several of our homes use decibel monitors that measure sound level only; they don't record audio or conversations.
It depends on the home — some are 18, most are 21, a few are 25. It's stated on each listing. If you're under the minimum you'll usually need a parent or legal guardian on the booking and staying with you.
